Former Norwich City manager Peter Grant has been named as Birmingham City's new first-team coach. Blues boss Alex McLeish has moved quickly to name the 44-year-old ex-Celtic and West Brom coach in the position following Roy Aitken's decision to join David O'Leary in Dubai with Al-Ahli. The 44-year-old former Scotland international has also worked at Bournemouth as player-coach and as Alan Pardew's assistant at West Ham United. He has been out of work for the last four months when he left Celtic at the same time as Tony Mowbray was axed by the Bhoys. McLeish told City's official website: "I've known Peter for a long time. He was an adversary of mine in my Aberdeen playing days, when he was a stalwart for Glasgow Celtic. "He is a competitive man who has been brought up in a winner's environment due to the traditions of Celtic. "He has successfully made the transition into becoming a coach and my diligence shows me he is the right man for the job. "His personality is akin to that of the man we have just lost, Roy Aitken, and that will be a great asset to us." |
