Fiorentina striker Adrian Mutu's career is on the line after he failed a routine drugs test following the 2-1 victory over Bari on January 10. The 31-year-old Romania international is reported to have tested positive for sibutramine, an appetite-suppressant used in the treatment of obesity. Mutu also tested positive during his time with Chelsea, a move which saw him handed a seven-month ban and a massive fine which he is still appealing against. His agent, Gigi Becali, admits that Mutu's time in football is now in doubt, telling GspTV: "If the result is confirmed then Adrian can wave goodbye to his career." However, Becali was reported to have taken a much more upbeat stance when he spoke to the Italian media, adding on Radio Toscana: "I am optimistic. I spoke to Mutu, now we will wait and see what happens." |
