Brown sees the funny side

10:47 - 29th, Nov 2009

Hull City boss Phil Brown saw the funny side of Jimmy Bullard's goal celebration as the Tigers hit back to draw 1-1 at Manchester City.

Almost 12 months ago, Brown was widely condemned for giving his side their half-time team talk on the Eastlands pitch after they had conceded four first-half goals.

But after Bullard had converted an 81st-minute penalty that ensured draw specialists Manchester City would be held for a seventh successive game, the former Fulham midfielder replicated the Boxing Day 2008 episode.

Brown said after the match: "It was a fantastic celebration. Great comedy's about timing. You couldn't have had a celebration like that, after a goal, unless it was at Eastlands and was in the goal in front of the Hull fans.

"The whole thing was timed to perfection.

"I had no idea it was going to happen. I was trying to arrange a five-man midfield at the time so I didn't see it.

"But my analysis guy showed me it on the laptop when we got into the changing room.

"I couldn't deliver my address because I was laughing so much.

"I've had nothing but support from the changing room. A change of chairman always causes problems in terms of which direction the club is going in and what's round the corner.

"Change in football causes anxiety. But the response of the players is why I'm still sat here as Hull City manager."
