Bournemouth continue to set the pace at the top of the League Two table but they were made to work hard for their latest victory. Two goals from Brett Pitman after 45 and 78 minutes were enough to edge out plucky Macclesfield Town, who had taken the lead in an entertaining game at Moss Rose. Second-placed Rochdale also won on the road to keep up the pressure on the Cherries after a 2-1 success over fellow promotion-chasers Dagenham & Redbridge. Peter Gain had opened the scoring for the Daggers in the third minute before the visitors snatched the points through second-half strikes by Kallum Higginbotham and Craig Dawson. Chesterfield piled the misery on rock-bottom Darlington after thrashing the hapless Quakers 5-2 at Saltergate. Two late goals from Scott Boden added a final gloss to the scoreline and moved the Spireites up to fifth place in the table. Fellow strugglers Lincoln City and Grimsby Town played out a disappointing goalless draw at Sincil Bank which did neither side any favours. Cheltenham Town continue to languish down in 21st place in the table after going down 1-0 away at Morecambe. Hereford United also remain locked in the bottom seven after losing a thrilling game 3-2 at the hands of Burton Albion. Leon Constantine struck twice for the Bulls but they failed to keep things tight at the other end with Aaron Webster's 87th-minute strike proving decisive for the Brewers. Bradford City and Accrington Stanley played out a 1-1 draw at Valley Parade, while Shrewsbury Town and Bury shared the same scoreline in their game at the New Meadow after Graham Coughlan snatched a last-gasp equaliser for the home side. Ambitious Notts County lost more ground on their fellow promotion-chasers after they failed to find the breakthrough in a disappointing goalless draw at home against Aldershot Town. Barnet against Port Vale also ended goalless at Underhill with the visitors losing Tommy Fraser to a last-minute red card. |
