Gunners allay Eduardo fears

08:21 - 21st, Aug 2009

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has allayed fresh injury fears surrounding Eduardo Da Silva after declaring the striker fit to face Portsmouth on Saturday.

The Croatia international missed the midweek Champions League play-off victory over Celtic after suffering an injury scare in the warm-up.

The striker is still being nursed back into first-team action by Wenger following his 12-month injury lay-off with a broken and dislocated ankle.

But despite the concern over his fitness, Wenger has confirmed that Eduardo will be part of his plans against Pompey.

"Eduardo had a tight groin in the warm-up and he felt he could not play," he told Arsenal TV Online.

"He had no power and we had to change (the team) quickly.

"Eduardo I believe will be back in contention but Theo Walcott will not be back at all.

"(Tomas) Rosicky, (Johan) Djourou, (Samir) Nasri, (Lukasz) Fabianski - they will all be out."

However, Wenger believes Walcott could return from injury against Manchester United next week.

The England winger has missed the Gunners' first two games of the new season with a back complaint.

"There is a slight concern but we believe it is a question of days and not of weeks," he added.

"It is always difficult to set a date. I thought he would be available for Celtic, I thought he would be available for Everton, but he wasn't. That's why we will be cautious."
