Albelda set for court date

09:22 - 3rd, Jan 2008

David Albelda could take Valencia to court in a bid to have his contract with the La Liga club terminated.

The club's former captain was one of three players told by new coach Ronald Koeman that he would not play for them again following his arrival at the Mestalla.

The former Spain international has been linked with a short-term move to a host of clubs across Europe - including Real Madrid - but Albelda must first be released from his contract.

The 30-year-old has reportedly failed in an initial bid to reach a settlement and his lawyer, Francisco Guillem, has hinted a court date could be on the horizon.

"The intent of the player was to reach a friendly agreement, but just as nobody actually informed him that he'd been discarded by the coach and president, the club ignored our request last week and, as of today, we have no response to our willingness to negotiate," he said.

"We should keep in mind that he is an employee with the same rights as any other employee.

"David knows that this measure is not being taken against Valencia the club, but rather those within it that make the decisions."
