A last minute winner from Fabrizio Miccoli sent AC Milan to their first defeat of the season as they crashed to a 2-1 loss away to Palermo on Wednesday. With just one win and three draws from their previous four games, Milan look decidedly off the pace, nine places and five points off the top of Serie A. Clarence Seedorf had given Carlo Ancelotti's side a first-half lead, then Aimo Diana equalised in the 73rd minute before Miccoli's late, late stunner. Roma lost the chance to extend their lead at the top as they took just a point from Fiorentina. An Adrian Mutu penalty ten minutes from time, his fourth goal of the season, drew La Viola level at 2-2. Marco Donadel was sent off five minutes later but Roma couldn't make the extra man count, failing to win for the second time this term. Inter Milan lie behind Roma due only to goal difference following a convincing 3-0 win over Sampdoria at the San Siro. Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored twice before Luis Figo rounded the game off, giving them their third win of the season. The fourth perennial title favourites, Juventus, went one better and put four past bottom side Reggina. That win left them one point behind Inter and Roma and ahead of Palermo and Napoli on goal difference. Napoli have been the surprise of the year in Serie A and looked good money for it, beating Livorno 1-0 with a late Roberto Sosa strike. Tommaso Rocchi scored twice at the Stadio Olimpico for Lazio's first win of the year, 3-1 over Cagliari, while Siena and Atalanta drew 1-1. Marco Borriello put in the performance of the evening in Genoa's 3-2 win, with a hat-trick helping his side recover from goalkeeper Moedim Rubinho's red card early in the second half. Catania and Parma both recorded their first wins of the season. Jorge Martinez hit the only goal in Catania's 1-0 win against Empoli, where Giacomo Tedesco and Lino Marzoratti were both sent off, while Parma beat Torino 2-0. |
