A scrappy goal from Stuart Drummond at Aggborough secured a 1-0 victory for Chester City to ease their relegation worries and plunge Kidderminster deeper into trouble.
Drummond's scrambled winner on 76 minutes summed up a dreary lower league clash that was short on entertainment and quality. The former Morecambe midfielder bundled in his goal from eight yards after Sean Hessey got to the byline and swept his cross through a crowded goalmouth.
Chester's victory leaves Ian Rush's men 13 points ahead of second from bottom Harriers and all but ends the chances of them going down.
Harriers, on the other hand find, find themselves stuck in a rut after continuing their usual habit of following up a victory with two defeats.
Kidderminster enjoyed the better of the second half with substitute Blair Sturrock seeing a close range effort scrambled away by Wayne Brown and Chris Beardsley curling a shot just wide of the angle.
But, while the Aggborough men saw plenty of the ball and sent over several dangerous crosses, they lacked the finishing touch.
Chester, meanwhile, went close when former Harriers midfielder Ben Davies stung John Danby's hands with a fierce free-kick, while it took a saving tackle from Johnny Mullins to deny Joe O'Neill.
Despite the first half being a fairly mundane affair there were chances for both sides to open the scoring before the break.
Danby managed to tip over a goal bound lob from O'Neil and was called into action again later on when he acrobatically palmed away a fierce 30-yard free-kick from Sean Hessey.
At the other end Billy Jones saw a half-hearted appeal for a penalty waved away when he tumbled all too easily under a challenge by Michael Branch.
Branch was involved in the opposite box when he screwed horribly wide with only the keeper to beat following a fine a pass by Taiwo Atieno.
The best chance of the half arrived when Gary Birch saw his header crashing back off the crossbar after a cross by Jones.
