Cook admits Morgan century relief

07:13 - 3rd, Mar 2010

England captain Alastair Cook admitted Eoin Morgan had dug the tourists out of a hole with his match-winning century in the second one-day international against Bangladesh.

Morgan's unbeaten 110 not out and an eighth-wicket stand of 32 with debutant James Tredwell helped the tourists reach the winning target of 261 with just seven balls to spare in Dhaka.

His knock helped England avoid the ignominy of a first-ever defeat to Bangladesh and ensured the tourists wrapped up the three-match series by a 2-0 scoreline with one game still to play.

"It got a bit close for our liking but Eoin came in with a fantastic knock and deserved to win the game," said Cook.

"He was calm under pressure and then dominated in the power play. It was a fantastic knock."

Speaking about the series victory, a delighted Cook added: "There are always areas to improve but when you chase down 260 on a turning wicket you have to be pleased with yourselves.

"We came here to win and have won the series but we can't let our foot off the gas, we have to try to win the series 3-0."
